Welcome

The Cruel Sea is an atmospheric, lively bar and kitchen, serving fish, meat and vegetarian tapas-style dishes alongside a contemporary fine wine list, the best European lagers and great British ales. The bar and kitchen also offer seafood lovers the unique opportunity to buy fresh shellfish and catch of the day from its fish room.

Restaurateur and fisherman Pete Miles came up with the concept as the next stage on from Storm Fish Restaurant in Poole, which he'd been a part of for the past 17 years. The Cruel Sea has Pete's ethos of "fresh from net to plate", and believes in sourcing in keeping with the seasons and using as much local produce as the weather and catch permit.

Come and experience it for yourself...

The restaurant’s name comes from the British film The Cruel Sea, 1953. Directed by Charles Frend and produced by Leslie Norman this is a classic World War II adventure about a British convoy escort ship and its officers.

Based on the best selling novel The Cruel Sea by Nicholas Monsarrat. It is a portrayal of the war between the Royal Navy and Germany's U-boats from the viewpoint of the British naval officers and seamen who served in escort vessels during World War II.
